Class description: Penelopes School of Dance promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance. Ballet helps to accomplish the development of children through physical skills like co-ordination, balance, timing, fine and gross motor skills, muscle tone, posture and social awareness. I follow the new Royal Academy of Dance -RAD syllabus which focuses on the creative development of young ballet dancers. The music is modern and exciting and I have seen such huge enjoyment had by
all my budding ballerinas. Each class follows a fairytale story, in which the children take turns to contribute their own steps and creative ideas into the lesson, while still learning the basic concept of ballet.

Instructor info:I went to my first ballet dancing lesson at the age of 4 in Zimbabwe,
wanting to follow in my big sisters footsteps. From there I was
hooked, I was the next prima ballerina. We moved to Durban where I
spent the rest of my school days dancing in many Exams, Eisteddfods
and shows. At the age of 15 I got a place as a junior dancer in the
Playhouse ballet company, dancing in many famous classical ballets.
After school I furthered my dance discipline and UCT, receiving a
degree in dance from UCT and a teacher's certificate from the RAD.
At the same time I was lucky to also dance with the CAPAB dance
company in many of their production this was between 1996 and 2000.
From there I went to dance in England, but was not settled there, I
wanted to teach. I returned to Cape Town in 2002 and started my own
ballet studio in Sea Point with 5 pupils. Today it is a busy studio
with 250 pupils and continues to grow. I am very excited to be
starting this new adventure with @play and look forward to working in
Tableview (closer to home).
